Ronnie J. Billie
Ronnie J. Billie, Assistant Chairman of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, sees his role as a sacred trust, having been elected by the General Council in November 2025. He describes his leadership as a heavy sense of generational duty, dedicated to protecting the Tribe’s sovereignty, land, and way of life. A proud Bird Clan member, Billie has a lifelong service record, including serving as the Tribe’s Housing Supervisor and bringing grassroots insight to the Business Council.
As second-in-command, his duties include presiding over councils in the Chairman’s absence, maintaining leadership continuity, and overseeing Tribal enterprises, festivals, and welfare programs. His strategic goals focus on economic stability, such as advancing Phase 1 of the Miccosukee Casino & Resort expansion, and on cultural preservation, including the Elaponke language and traditions.
Billie assumes office during a time of change, emphasizing that while the Tribe has modernized with law, science, and economics, their core identity as “The Unconquered” remains. He states, “I’d want the world to know that we are no longer just inhabitants of the River of Grass, but its primary guardians. We use our modern wealth and power to protect the same thing our ancestors died for: the right to live their life, in their own way, in the Everglades.”
